Ways to relax after a day at work

There’s nothing more satisfying than a hard day’s work. The fulfillment of a job well done is enough to recharge and refresh you for another day of hard work. Right?

Anyone? No?

Ok, there are a million things more satisfying than work, but what about relaxing after a day’s work? That’s more like it!

Unfortunately, in today’s frantic landscape, it can be hard to unwind and shake off “work mode,” I say, unfortunately, because our bodies and minds NEED rest. To perform at our best, we need to contrast hard work with reward.

What is the best way to shake off the day and recharge? Read on dear friend as we take a look at the best ways to relax after a day’s work.

Treat your self

After crushing your work day, it would be easy enough to keep going. When a big deadline is looming, it could be easier to stay in work mode and try to tough it out. The problem with a gung-ho approach is you will wear your self out. A tried mind will produce uninspired work, and it might come back to bite you eventually.

When you work hard, it’s important to treat your self with life’s little luxuries, to remind you of why you are working so hard in the first place. You don’t have to go crazy, just remember the good things in life and unwind with a little treat. My personal favorite is a small glass of Cognac in the evening on my Dominica outdoor armchair.

Have a clean surrounding

It’s hard to relax after a day’s work when your home is a mess. Conversely, cleaning your home is the last thing you want to do after a long day at the office. With a little effort and time management, you should be able to keep your surroundings fresh and clean while maintaining a full work life.

The benefits of a clean house go further than hygiene. A clear space clears the mind and destresses.

A comfy chair

If it weren’t for my Dominica armchair, I would be lost. After a heavy day’s work, I love to unwind in my back yard on this sumptuous chair. Whatever your tastes dictate, a comfy chair to unwind in is a must. While my chair of choice sits on my balcony, you don’t have to get an outdoor setting, just find a chair that is right for your body.

Exercise

Yuck! Really? Exercise after a long day’s work might seem like the worst way to unwind, but science shows that regular exercise can be beneficial in all areas of your life, including relaxation. A healthy body has an easier time relaxing and recuperating as well as fighting diseases and infections.

Even a light walk for thirty minutes releases feel-good chemicals into the body and can produce a natural state of elation. Instead of hopping on the couch and cramming cheezels down your face after work, try unwinding with a leisurely stroll around the neighborhood.

Embrace nature

Your laptop needs charging, your phone needs charging, your car needs refueling, but who recharges you? A few years ago I discovered the rejuvenating properties of mother nature, and it doesn’t cost a cent to use. If you are blessed to live in an area with bushland or nature reserves, you owe it to yourself to get out and explore these green spaces.

Leaving your work at work can be a challenge, but for the sake of our minds and bodies, we must have relaxation.  From a simple lounge on your favorite chair to take in the fresh air of an evening stroll, destressing and relaxation don’t have to be hard. Kick off your shoes, take a deep breath, its time to relax and unwind.
